Dentures/ False teeth Treatment

Dentures / missing teeth

Dentures are removable teeth made of acrylic (plastic) and bridges are made of metal or ceramic .Dentures  fit snugly over the gums to replace missing teeth and eliminate potential problems caused by missing teeth like chewing, esthetics and speech

Gaps left by missing teeth can cause problems with eating and speech, and teeth either side of the gap may migrate into the space and disturbe the alignment of teeth and cause difficulty in chewing, joint pain, muscle pain and even headache because of improper occlusion

Sometimes all the teeth need to be removed and replaced.

You may therefore need either:

complete dentures (a full set) – which replace all your upper or lower teeth, or
partial dentures – which replace just 1 tooth or a few missing teeth
Dentures may help prevent problems with eating and speech and, if you need complete dentures, they may also improve the appearance of your smile and give you confidence.

What are dentures?
A denture is a type of replacement for missing teeth. It is designed to be inserted and removed every day at night.
Dentures are custom made for each individual patient. They can be partial (if you still have some of your own teeth) or full (if you have no remaining teeth).

What are types of dentures?
There are two types of dentures:

1. Partial denture which replaces one tooth or several teeth.
2. Full denture which replaces the whole set of teeth, on the upper or lower.
With modern techniques our dentists can provide dentures that are fixed into place using dental implants, which provides greater comfort and stability.

All dentures are designed by the dentist or our dental technician to suit each patient’s individual needs.

The key steps involved in creating your dentures:
Impressions are recorded .
A record of how your upper and lower teeth/jaws bite together is taken
A wax version (trial)of your denture will be produced to test how it fits and to check you are happy with the appearance of your new denture
The wax denture will be adjusted to achieve a result that we are both happy with
Your denture will finished off by a technician and delievered at your next appointment
Your dentist will fit your dentures, advise you on how to insert and remove them
You will be given advice on how to get used to your new denture and the best ways to look after them
We will arrange a follow up review appointment to see how you are getting on and to make any adjustments needed to your dentures.
It is normal for dentures to need adjusting after they have been fitted to achieve a comfortable fit. This can take several visits depending on each individual patient.
